Interpreting Your Scores
0 to 5. If your team is underperforming and there is low morale, the profound lack of recognition is likely a major factor. Team members do not feel acknowledged for their work at an individual or group level. They feel that their work is not valued or appreciated, and they feel taken for granted and disrespected. The only time people get recognized is when they screw up. Unless this issue is addressed at all levels—that is, by team members, team leaders, and team sponsors—there is little hope that your team will ever achieve SuperTeam status.
6 to 10. Your team’s mediocre recognition score likely contributes to a “show up and do my job” attitude and concomitant level of effort. Team members have little expectation that working hard will lead to any monetary or nonmonetary rewards. Little appreciation leads to little inspiration. Without improvement in this area, moderately engaged team members will continue to deliver moderate results.
11 to 15. Scores in this range suggest that team members are regularly acknowledged by their team leader and by one another and their work is appreciated by the organization. Team members feel valued and are more likely to be engaged and to contribute higher levels of discretionary effort. When hard work is reinforced, people work harder. Morale is likely high, and team members feel positively toward one another, their team leader, and organization.
